How Much Sparkling Wine Do You Need For 100 Wedding Guests?

One of the questions we're asked most often by couples planning their wedding is:

"How much sparkling wine do we actually need?"

Whether you're organising a marquee wedding on a family farm, a countryside celebration or a coastal gathering with friends and family, getting the drinks right can feel like a challenge.

Order too little and you risk running dry!! Order too much and you're left with bottles that never get opened.

The good news? There are some simple guidelines to help. And whilst the amount of sparkling wine matters, creating a memorable drinks reception is about much more than the numbers.

So, How Much Sparkling Wine Do You Need For 100 Guests?

As a general rule:

  • One standard 75cl bottle of sparkling wine serves around 6 glasses

  • For 100 guests enjoying a single welcome drink, you'll need approximately 17-20 bottles

We'd always recommend ordering a little extra, particularly if sparkling wine is your primary drinks reception option.

Of course, every wedding is different.

Some couples choose a simple glass of fizz after the ceremony, whilst others create a more interactive drinks experience with multiple stations, signature cocktails or local drinks options available throughout the reception.

Think Beyond The Sparkling Wine…

The most memorable drinks receptions often give guests something to talk about.

In recent years we've seen couples move beyond a simple glass of fizz and create experiences that feel personal to them and their guests.

Some of our favourites include:

  • Pimm's stations for summer weddings

  • Aperol Spritz bars

  • Local cider stations

  • Signature cocktails inspired by the couple

  • Espresso martini hours

  • Local sparkling wines from Cornwall, Devon and Somerset

Not only do these options add personality, they also create natural conversation points whilst guests mingle after the ceremony.

One Thing Couples Often Forget

Whilst most couples spend time calculating bottles and choosing drinks, one thing is often overlooked:

Who's actually serving them?

A drinks reception can involve:

  • Pouring welcome drinks

  • Serving canapés

  • Keeping drinks stations stocked

  • Collecting glasses

  • Assisting guests

  • Managing transitions into the wedding breakfast

The best drinks receptions feel effortless because there is a team working behind the scenes to keep everything running smoothly.

Without dedicated support, these responsibilities can quickly fall to family members, bridesmaids, groomsmen or suppliers who already have plenty to do.

The Best Investment Isn't Always Another Bottle…

When planning your wedding drinks reception, sparkling wine is a great place to start, but don't stop there.

Think about the experience you want to create for your guests. Whether that's local sparkling wine, a Pimm's station, a champagne and oyster bar or simply ensuring everyone is looked after throughout the afternoon, it's often the little details that make the biggest difference.

And if you need a hand bringing it all together, we'd love to help.
