Serve Crew: A Day in the Life

Meet Debbie! Debbie has been working with Serve for the last 12 months and has brought years of hospitality experience from her background in pubs, cafe’s and events, into a wide variety of roles at Serve Cornwall. From weddings to festivals, hotels to corporate functions, she has done it all and is a very valued member of the team.

Let’s hear from her about what it’s like to work as part of the Serve team:

I joined the Serve Crew at the beginning of 2023. I found out about Serve via some friends of mine who recommended them to me after working at a few of the amazing events Serve works on. Over the past 12 months or so, I have been lucky enough to work at lots of events across the county from the most beautiful weddings to fun-filled music festivals.

I’m based in Newquay and there have been lots of events right on my doorstep which is handy for me. Being a crew member fits into my lifestyle perfectly, I can work as little or as often as I would like to. And, I can have fun at work and get paid for it too! Serve uses an app which I can access on my phone when I am on-the-go – it is super simple to use. I check it every day so that I can get myself signed up for the next event shifts as soon as possible. Some of the events can be very popular so I try to get in quickly if it issomething that I particularly want to do.

Most recently, I worked at a beach wedding on Lusty Glaze, serving welcome drinks and canapes for guests, delicious food and shaking up cocktails. For this wedding, it was a team of four of us, there was one familiar face and the other two were crew members that I hadn’t met before. I really enjoy working as part of smaller teams because it means we can get to know each other (between busy periods, of course!). It was one of the longer shifts I have done, but it was great to be able to be part of the whole day - seeing the happy couple and their wedding party having the most perfect day. It also meant the team and I could build a personal rapport with the guests because we were all with them from start to finish, making the day even more enjoyable for us and them.

One of my favourite parts of being part of the Serve crew has been making some great friends and meeting some interesting people from the events. When you’re working for different clients that are hosting different styles of events it is always reassuring to have familiar faces to work alongside.

I absolutely loved working with Serve throughout 2023, I have been able to be part of some fantastic events that I wouldn’t have been able to be part of otherwise. I have made friends for life and I am looking forward to working with them again throughout the 2024 season.”

Thank you to Debbie and all the other wonderful members of our team, who go above and beyond to make every event one to remember.
